Dynamo Brush Gears on 3.5-litre Bentley.

There seems to be an increase in the number of dynamo troubles experienced at K during the last few weeks, principally due to dirty commutators.

For example, since the beginning of this quarter up to three weeks ago, out of the 14 owners complaints of dynamo not charging or erratic charging, 9 cases have proved to be caused by blacking up of the commutators due to carbon deposit from the brush gear.

We are returning to you under cover of our advice note No.4217 the LOP dynamo No.J.8.BT{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}/S removed from chassis No.B.64.DG - complaint - brush gear noisy in this case, but you will notice that the brushes are worn considerably. There is, in our opinion, excessive blacking up of the armature, considering the low mileage covered by this chassis.(9971).

Perhaps you would care to look into this matter and see what is happening. Are the brushes soft?

I know that you are possibly between the devil and the deep sea on the question of brushes - soft that are noiseless, but do not wear well and hard - rather inclined to be noisy, but give good service.
