X.7625 - SEQUENCE STARTER MOTOR NO.2 SCHEME.

Referring to R3/M8.6.27 - last para. - you will see that we are anxious to know whether it will suit the engine and/or various aspects of production equally well were we to use a 5¼" or 5½" dia. motor. This proposition has arisen as a result of our making and sending a set of calculations to R.{Sir Henry Royce} which show that it is a difficult proposition in electrical design satisfactorily to make a motor of 5" dia. to start the Phantom engine with a ratio as low as 13 : 1. There is also the question as to whether it would be possible to have any further length of machine.
