I am in receipt of E.3/HP.7.4.36. I understand as the result of a conversation on the telephone with Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} that you are not yet convinced that it is the floorboards on 36-EX that are causing the noise and that is why you want to make the comparative tests with 34-EX, i.e. the car with the Park Ward body of similar dimensions.

It is important to see, when the comparative test is made, that both cars are fitted with the same variety of tyres.

34-EX and one or two other cars used for Trials had some Dunlop tyres with special silent treads fitted when we were in the throes of tyre noises.

The Experimental Dept. apparently now are against these tyres as not likely to give long enough life so probably they are not fitted to 36-EX.

The reason why I sent the urgent telephone message through to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} last Thursday asking him and you to try this car was because Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} and I were shocked at the idea of cars like this being delivered to customers, and were particularly shocked because Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} seemed to think it was quite good.

I shall be very much interested to know the result of the comparative tests and also to have information about the tyres.

Will the Experimental Dept. also say why they have formed the opinion that silent tread tyres will not give the necessary length of life. What running have they done?
