To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} X217 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}16/KW.17.7.35. Bentley Crankshaft. With regard to the crankshaft for the large bore engine, we are of the opinion that it would be advisable to have 1.250" wide crankpins. There is still a considerable increase in journal area and in view of the expected output from 3.5" bore when "hotted up", we think 1 1/8" length of crankpin will be insufficient. We attach a table of bearing areas for the various arrangements, together with calculated critical speeds for the crankshaft. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}: | ||
