Re. VACUUM FEED.

R7/M24.7.25.

It would appear that there is no alternative except pressure fed petrol if we are to overcome all the faults in the Autovac system.

The chief faults of the pressure system have been :-

1. Perforation of the Tank.

2. The amount of pumping by hand required when the petrol level is low.

It might be possible to guard the tank to some extent by a design of luggage grid which could also act as a partial guard.

A small tank of about one gallon capacity would overcome so much hand pumping, and would prevent being entirely stranded through a perforated rear tank. It may be possible to link up an air vent tap to the main supply and emergency tank tap. An air tight filler cap on the inside of the dashboard would be required.

A good gauge fitted to the dashboard would be necessary for filling up from the main tank.

The system of piping would be rather complicated, but I do not know of any other alternative to overcome all the troubles.
