Mr. Campbell the Manager of the Park Foundry rang up this afternoon, (unfortunately you are not in) because he was lodging a complaint about the amount of smoke from our boiler.

He said that all the houses along the road opposite to the Clan, belong to his firm, and they had all complained very bitterly that they were unable to keep windows open if the wind was blowing in their direction.

He said, speaking as a boiler expert, he felt that lengthening the chimney slightly would help matters, but he thought that the trouble was due to faulty stoking. He says, in his experience long periods between each stoke-up causes a lot of black smoke.

He feels that proper instruction to our stoker together with the lengthening of the chimney, would overcome the trouble. He says that he hopes you will see your way to taking some action.

Since dictating the above E J J has been here and told me that he is taking action.
