H.S. 147 Worm Axle XIII Gear tests with worm axle on 1861 same conditions as previous tests. Runs 3rd gear HP 2nd gear HP 1st gear HP 500 18.8 19 16.1 1000 34.8 34.8 33.2 1500 43 43 43 On 1st gear there was a chattering noise occasionally on overrunning, the worm wheel is rather rough. I see Mr Bailey's diagnosis that oil film might break down under the loads. The worm wheel of 10HP on direct at 1700 was softer than this - its note dented up badly. When we changed the oil, in the oil we took out there was an immense quantity of metal particles. | ||
