FOR THE ATTENTION OF MR. HIVES

Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letters of January 25th and February 7th, we have now tested the 5 Lodge Model Z.27 plugs. We find that they were all rather badly oiled up inside, but otherwise 4 were in perfect order and 1 failing to spark. At the moment we have not found out whether the failure to spark is due to soot inside or a broken insulator.

Confirming our telephone message of this morning we have sent you 6 more steatite plugs, Model CD, for your tests. As far as withstanding heat and oil is concerned, we should say these plugs are in between the first pattern and the second pattern that you tested.

We are getting out a detachable pattern of plug with a steatite insulator, and these Model CD are the first experimental ones, and we want you to bear in mind that these plugs are purely experimental, as we do not consider the detachability
