-2- There is one point, however, I think we may have to alter; that is under winter conditions out here we want the shutters to close at a higher temperature. Some days we have had a few degrees of frost and in the traffic jams the water drops to quite a low temperature and we get very little heat from the exhaust when idling with the present scheme of exhaust heating, therefore, the acceleration suffers. I am sure in their real winter weather there will be a demand for average higher temperature. To sum up the position here at the moment, the officials at Springfield are very pleased with 25-EX car except for the springs. There is a difference of opinion on the question of springing. Mr. Beaver claims that the car is not sprung as well as their standard cars. I have told them that before I can accept that I shall need to be convinced by them producing a car of a similar type which gives a better ride. Although it is open to question as regards relative merits of the 25-EX car and the Springfield cars as regards riding, there is no question whatever that for both countries, we have got to do all we can to give a better ride.
