RE. VISIT TO DELCO-REMY LTD.

I paid a visit to the above firm on Wednesday when the following items were discussed.

1. Bentley distributor and governor.

These are assembled and individually tested by fully qualified male personnel. They are supplying Leyland Dennis, Talbot and Lagonda with distributors and coils. 1,300 sets have been supplied to Dennis this year.

Trouble has been experienced with Dennis distributors, which are mounted horizontally, due to the governor weights mounting on their spindles and although our distributors are mounted vertically Delco-Remy wish to incorporate in them the same modification they have fitted to the Dennis distributor i.e. enclosing the governor mechanism in light steel pressing so that it is impossible for any vertical movement of the weights to occur. It was agreed therefore, that they would build for us further distributors with the modified governor which we will then try out on engines.

With regard to the lubrication of the governor weights thrust face, they agreed to incorporate a small groove on the cam spindle to feed more lubricant from the felt wad on the top of the cam. At present the only way any lubricant reaches the governor mechanism after the initial oiling, is via the bearing clearance between the cam spindle and the driving spindle.

All these modifications will be incorporated without any increase in the price quoted i.e. 36/6d. each per 500 distributors. A three years free replacement guarantee will be given with each distributor.

2. Vacuum Control automatic advance.

This would be very difficult to incorporate with the double breaker type of distributor proposed for the Bentley and a new design would have to be prepared. We informed them that we proposed to carry out further tests before we finally decided on the worth of the device as far as we were concerned.

continued.
