RE GOSHAWK - OIL RETAINING AT BACK OF ENGINE. X. 4220

Mr. Elliott and I have arranged for 2 long bolts to pass through the upper and the lower halves, and much more effectively fix these together at the rear end.

The shorter bolt under the supporting tube will be cancelled.

This arrangement cannot be used until the patterns have been altered. It should be done at the earliest opportunity.

Some time ago we sent you a modification of the split oil retaining cover at this end. This we under-stand has never been tested.

We are now sending you a further suggestion of making this more effectively oil retaining.

As regards the quantity of oil lost this cannot be much when the engines are carefully fitted, as the oil consumption has been so low in most of the experimental work.

R.{Sir Henry Royce}
