The objects of changing over to this type of matrix are :- (1) To increase the cooling efficiency. (2) To decrease the radiator weight. (3) To decrease the radiator costs. Whilst investigating weights it became apparent many of the radiator parts appear excessively heavy for the job they are called upon to do. The 20/25 HP. standard radiator for instance weighs 117 lbs. filled with water). This weight is distributed as follows. lbs. (1) Matrix with starting handle bush. 36.375 (2) 2 Matrix frame side plates (brass castings.) 8.8125 (3) 2 side plates (Staybrite). 4.5 (4) Top tank with steam pipe and name plate. 11.8125 (5) Anti splash radiator cap complete. .625 (6) Bottom tank (brass casting). 7.00 (7) 14 Radiator shutter blades. 11.00 (8) Thermostat and controls... 1.25 (9) Bottom bearing plates for shutters. .6875 (10) Top bearing plates for shutters. .4375 (11) Shutter pivots, nuts and washers. .0625 (12) Water. 28.00 | ||
