We have had a serious complaint from the owner of the above car Mr. Antweiler, who is Managing Director of Mulliners, Birmingham, that the coil had failed on his car a day or so after taking delivery, as a matter of fact, after the first run from Birmingham to Bournemouth. We arranged for Cricklewood to send a man down with a new coil and get the car running again quickly. The faulty coil was returned to the Works, and the following is Mr. Archer's report:- "On test in Mr. Brock's Dept. it was found that the primary circuit was broken down. The coil was stripped, but although on test the coil was definitely broken down, no break could be found in the windings or in the insulation. It is only necessary for the slightest leak to occur in the insulation of the coil to cause a breakdown, and this is the cause of most of the coil breakdowns which are experienced with our coils. Mr. Brock is of the opinion that the breakdown of this coil was due to a leak in the insulation and he personally unwound this coil, but was unable to find the position of the leak". We understand that this trouble is already known, and that the matter is in hand. We should like to know what prospects there are of a permanent cure. EP{G.
