Origin: Cheaper springs in "Swedish wire" taking advantage of close coiling to overcome valve spring surge. Report of Experimental Test. The above springs in special coiled form and as bought complete from the Tempered Spring Co. Sheffield 4. have run without failure on 15,000 miles test of 6-B-IV and 3-B-IV in the meantime we are continuing with tests to produce springs at R.R. in Swedish wire. So far these springs have proved more reliable than our standard springs.
