We might try experimentally brass or copper tubes.
(3) RE COUNTERSUNK SCREWS FIXING WATER JACKET COVERS TO CYLINDER.
I quite think that screws with flat under the head would be better than the countersunk screw.
(4) RE FLYWHEEL CASING.
This could easily have one or two openings in the bottom that are always open for drainage, or it could have a small drain hole and a large cover of thin material, but as there will be an undershield coming back well behind this point, we think a permanent opening would be quite all that is necessary.
(5) CLUTCH TRUNNION (HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG5/8/21)
The sleeve operating the clutch should revolve always with the flywheel, and as this is carried on a spigot on the flywheel, there is no motion between these parts except that of sliding up and down to release the clutch. You are mistaken that the whole time the engine is running the sleeve is stationary. If the apparatus as designed does not give satisfaction there is something wrong with the thrust bearing, and one would think that the levers operating the clutch (which are carried on the cross shaft) are wrongly fixed, either in length, height, or sideways. Perhaps the clearances shewn on our drawing is insufficient for practice, but it is quite easy to get more with a little bulkier dimensions.
Regarding the number of times that hand oiling has to be done, you will find this is no worse than other cars. It is difficult to arrange automatic oiling without getting excess of oil and complication. None of the parts should fail if oiling is neglected, and we should not expect it is necessary to oil the parts more than once every three months.
(6) SPRING DRIVE.
I will get this arranged so as to be proof against error of erection which has arisen.
