Half-charge Dynamo
Scheme. 20/25 H.P.

The attached resume of memos and discussions which have passed in connection with this subject will give you some idea as to the general importance of the matter. It is therefore all the more disappointing that so far it has not been possible to discover any improvement in our production resulting from all this thought and discussion in the earlier stages; it appeared that by altering the control brush and reducing the field resistance definite advantages would be obtained.

Then in the last reference made by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst - Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst4/AD28.4.32 we are told that the dynamo could be made to cut in at 15 m.p.h. without introducing any overheating troubles by reducing suitably the length of the resistance, but still I find from JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} that ~~these~~ machines now coming through are cutting-in not one second earlier than they did four months ago, and it would be interesting to hear from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} whether he agrees that the experience of JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} is the same as his own.

The hope held out in the last paragraph of By3/G/25.4.32 that the modified armature to be tried out would greatly assist is apparently washed out. I understand that there was a second armature of this nature instructed, about which there has been no further information.

If Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst in his Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst4/AD28.4.32 was convinced that by so simple a modification as altering the length of the resistance such an improvement in cutting-in could be obtained, it is difficult to understand why the chassis which have been recently turned out do not benefit by this. Perhaps EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} will be able to state that the latest chassis are improved in this respect, and that the experience of JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} has been limited only by his tests of complete cars, the chassis of which of course would have been ex Derby at an earlier date.
