To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E/Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} X1204 E/Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}1/MN.6.12.35. Technical Records Section and Museum. Result of Meeting held Dec.6th. Present:- BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E/Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} outlined the present system on which the various reports from all sources are circulated. He has not attempted to expand the scheme beyond the present simple conception of (1) filing all reports which enter the Dept. from outside and (2) advising heads of staff of what is available when it arrives. The proposal to create a new section was discussed and it was agreed as follows:- (1) The section shall be a separate entity and not tacked on to any existing section such as the Patents Section. (2) It must be housed in the present Drawing Office block. This will provide the convenient accessibility necessary for those who will use it most. (3) It must be under the direction of one of the existing departments. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} proposed and it was agreed that, as the Design Dept. will use it most, they shall control it. (4) The job must be done thoroughly and a good man is required to run it. The work requires initiative, method and Technical knowledge. Proposals for an existing member of the staff will be put forward. (5) The accommodation must provide convenience for studying reports without removal as a general and fairly rigid rule. Records will not leave the section except where duplicates are held, or where sanction is given by a departmental head. (6) Records kept shall include both information from both external and internal sources such, for example, as periodicals, A.M. and R.A.E. reports, interamia and such like publications, Test Dept. reports, competitors instruction books, etc. The section will distribute periodicals to the staff, who will be encouraged to mark articles worth keeping and on return these will be sorted out. | ||
