re Chassis Foot Switch.

The present position with regard to chassis foot switches was raised at the chassis conference yesterday.

We are at the moment fitting a foot switch to all our chassis which is suitable for the English dip and switch conditions, and is unsuitable for the lighting regulations existing in most foreign countries such as France, Canada, U.S.A. etc. where dipping reflectors are illegal and twin filament bulbs are used. We are constantly being asked by F.B.A.Ltd. for a switch which can easily be wired up to suit the French regulations.

The design for such a switch (RR.Sch.998) was completed and issued on 3rd November 1936. This switch is arranged so that it can be wired up to suit either the English conditions, or to suit the regulations in operation in every foreign country. In addition the switch is improved in design as compared with the present one, and is also cheaper to manufacture. We should be glad if you will let us know the present position of this switch because it is desired to standardise it at the earliest possible opportunity provided that it is satisfactory.

With regard to the various failures which have been recently reported on foot switches fitted to experimental cars, we should be glad to know if any reason for this has been located. Our information is that the failures were not due to any inherent design fault but were found to have failed because of manufacturing faults. Can you please confirm this?
