86-007. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c.c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c.c. to SFT.{Mr Swift} c.c. to ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/AW. S.U. PETROL PUMPS We are at a complete standstill for these - in fact have none for this week's output. I understand Mr. Bowring made some arrangement with the S.U. Company that certain castings should come here for anti-corrosion treatment, and promised they should be ready for return in 3-4 hours after receipt. A batch was delivered here on August 20th, and the castings were not received back by the S.U. Company until this morning, the 29th instant. I further understand that in view of the desperate position in which we are placed Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst has suggested this treatment can be waived, and I have told the S.U. Company to proceed accordingly pending further advice. Apart from the difficulty with which we are faced in maintaining production, we have no Pumps whatever to send away for changeovers on Bentley chassis already delivered, and from present indications shall not have sufficient for at least 10-14 days.
