Car Policy and Programme.

Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}9/E2.12.35

Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KW.19.11.35 I have not written earlier because I wanted to discuss the matter with C. and Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} prior to coming to Derby, which I have now done.

I think the best way will be for us to discuss the matter on Thursday and doubtless E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will bring forward his views on several of the very important suggestions and recommendations made therein.

Personally my reaction is one of surprise to the recommendation that our two RR chassis, the 40/50 and the 20/25, should be the same as regards the frames (except for their length), brake gear, steering, axles, suspension etc., the chief difference between the two cars being the size and design of the power unit because, in view of the importance of the power weight ratio, it seems extraordinary to me that, if the parts enumerated are correct for a 40/50, they would be correct and not unnecessarily heavy for the smaller car.

However, I shall be interested to hear the views of others on this subject as well as on several other important points raised in the memo.
