To BY/HEB.{H. Biraben} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} +7410 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/LGS.9.28. BUFFER CLEARANCE. x615 With reference to BY/HEB{H. Biraben}4/M6.9.28. If a car would normally be sprung with 4.125" buffer clearance but the owner wishes to drive fast, the sports 25% stiffer rear spring with 3.650" buffer clearance is the correct spring to give him. If, however, the car is going to be used abroad in Spain etc., we recommend that the 25% stiffer sports type spring should be fitted of such a poundage that the resultant buffer clearance is 4.00". The 25% stiffer spring with 3.650 buffer clearance gives very little more immunity from hitting the buffers than the standard spring. Its main function is to lower the car. With 4" buffer clearance, however, it corresponds to a std. spring with 5" buffer clearance, and therefore gives a low car and a very large margin before buffer crashing occurs.
