X4038. Expl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/MJ. Dec.12th.1929. Messrs. H.M. Hobson Ltd., 47-55, Acton Vale, London. W.3. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Major Searight. With reference to your letter of the 11th. December for which we thank you. We are retaining the gauge head which you sent as a model with the spring attachment because we want to take the opportunity of trying out the gland at the head of the glass tube, on a second car. However, if we evolve anything satisfactory in the way of a spring for holding the gauge in position we will send it on to you. In view of the fact that there are other features which have to be taken into consideration besides the one you mention (i.e. The fact that Tetra-bromide attacks aluminium) makes rather a difference, and under these circumstances the advantages of brass appear to outweigh the disadvantages. We should like to see the casting you propose to use in the new metal as soon as one is available. Yours faithfully, For Rolls-Royce Ltd. | ||
