X5120 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M1.9.31. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SPECIAL TOURING SALOON 25 HP. - 'U' SERIES. While it is agreed - and is our practice - not to fit cutouts to the 25HP., we think that you may wish to do so on the special touring saloon in order to enable the very maximum HP. of the engine to be made use of. If we have our present silencer such a cutout would make a big difference, but if we have a silencer based on the lines of P. 2. - shewn on N. schs. 3285/6/7. - it may be thought that the loss of power due to the exhaust silencer is not sufficient to merit the extra cost of the cutout. We have however in that design provided a means whereby a cutout can readily be fitted. You have already a design for the operation suitable for the present gearbox. We suggest that this design will not need very great alteration to make it suitable for the synchro mesh gearbox, and we would be glad if you would kindly make a scheme for this gearbox based on the lines of the one already in existence, and send it to us for our approval.
