safety gaps of the magnetos, also went through successfully on all these machines, except that on the second Scintilla (with larger armature capacity) sparks were observed occasionally to jump from the winding to the earthed side of the safety gap also from the H.T. rotor to the gear wheel. The standard K06 machine was O.K. on this test.

(12) A short test of 15 minutes at 1200 R.P.M. with hand timing lever fully retarded and H.T. discharges taking place on 5.5 mm. gaps in air, with standard lengths (2 ft) of high tension cable, was now taken on each machine to see that it was normally correct after the open circuit test. This was O.K. for all three machines.

(13) Utility Test. In the utility test leakage paths as follows are connected across one of the six spark gaps with the magneto running at 1500 R.P.M. and the greatest length of regular spark obtainable in each case ascertained:-

(a) Nothing connected across.

(b) The secondaries of two Remy coils in series connected across, one Remy primary being short circuited.

(c) Ditto, but with both Remy primaries short-circuited.

(d) The secondary of one Remy coil only connected across with its primary short circuited.

The maximum gaps (mm.) obtained on the three magnetos were as follows :-
