Dear Sirs,

WIRE WHEELS FOR S. S. TYRES.

Replying to your letter of the 13th inst. in which you give us a copy of a report which you discussed with Colonel Matthew and Mr.Randles on their last visit - we would confirm that we quite agree as to the necessity of the detachable flange constituting a spring, and the practice we have now adopted is to provide these flanges with an overlap of 7/8" to 1" at the ends when off the rim, and the dimensions of the flanges are such that, when fitted, a gap of 3/32" to 3/16" exists between the ends.

This gap is only half that named in the report from your American House, but we are satisfied that the reason for the larger gap provided on the American flanges is to provide for the somewhat unsatisfactory fitting of the flange into the rim when new. We think you will find our rims are much better in this respect, and that the bedding down due to inaccuracy of fit is much less than is found in some of the American flanges, and for this reason we are satisfied that the small gap we provide will be found quite sufficient.

It is of course better to keep this gap as small as possible, providing that the two ends do not actually butt.

Yours faithfully,

For The DUNLOP RUBBER CO.Ltd.,

(Sgd.) W.H.Paull.
