To B.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to EY 78430 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG17.7.26. PHANTOM STEERING. 78450 78430 Answering your BJ5/E16.7.26. We are proposing to go to WW. on Tuesday next the 20th. We shall be taking a covered car fitted with the 1500 lbs. springs. R.{Sir Henry Royce} in his memo. R6/M12.7.26. confirms that the 1500 lbs. springs which have been standardised for the .940 steering are the best compromise. From experimental tests we are satisfied that on covered cars they are the best compromise. We understand that the .940 steering has been fitted to most of the cars which it was agreed it should be fitted. All those cars are fitted with the 1500 lbs. springs. As 1500 lbs. springs are only fitted to .940 steerings and as we have only 50 sets of this steering instructed, we had not proposed to make any further extensive tests with these springs. As far as we know there has been one plaint of the 1500 lbs. springs - this came from Sales. We suggest that Sales demonstrate the fault to us; we shall then be able to say whether the steering behaves in the way we anticipate or whether there is something else wrong with that particular example. The car we are sending to France (12-EX) will of course be fitted with the standard .720 lead steering. We shall have on there side steering tube springs of 2000 lbs. These springs are in the experimental stage. There is no vital urgency to change the standard springs fitted on the .720 steerings. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
