The work we have been doing at WW. is thehead, block, and induction system, and the new model single carburetter to replace the twin which we now think gives too long an induction system for the farthest cylinder.

In the meantime we have come to the conclusion that it is not very practical to keep an overhanging flywheel really steady unless we use double bearings so that the No. 6. piston (inertia or gas pressure) does not get a chance of disturbing it.

Derby want modifications to the crankchamber which are not all that can be desired.

So that I consider we ought to go the whole move of making J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. but keep it the present size of 3.250 X 4.5 because we can get sufficient HP. for our customers. We do not want a heavier engine and we cannot get more valve area, which is the gauge of our HP.

There would therefore be a new crankchamber pattern with double rear bearing and the half time at the rear (as already designed for J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3.) and many other features of economy, silence, and efficiency, including cams running in oil.

The drawing for this would be ready quicker than extensive alterations to the existing crankchamber.

The work we have been doing during the last months would not be wasted - i.e. both on J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 1. and 3.
