58-GN. CAR.

Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}13/E5.12.32.

As regards your criticism of the carburetter we have been aware of this as a fault on this type of carburetter but we had imagined that it was overcome on 58-GN. This fault existed on 19-EX. car when in France. It also has been general with this type of carburetter. We think we could overcome it if we could consistently reproduce the fault. Our difficulty has been that it has done it once or twice and then we have spent the whole of the day and not been able to reproduce it.

As regards the starting, we made special precautions to make sure that the car would start up after being left out all night in the frost. We think that it is very possible that the starter carburetter is adjusted too strong for the normal conditions of a car in the garage.

As 58-GN. represents the cars which are just about to go on to production we are very keen to follow up these faults and we should like you to continue running the car so as to be able to confirm your results and then early next week we will send a man down so that the points can be demonstrated and he can carry out the necessary adjustments.
