REGULATORS WITH HIGHER OUTPUT CHARACTERISTIC. We have received from the Makers, and bench tested, two regulators of the B.2.R.343 type. These have a higher characteristic, as the result of having only 2 1/2 turns on the series winding, instead of 3 turns as on the standard unit. Thus we now have samples of the two alternatives of higher-output regulators, put forward by Messrs. Lucas. Particulars of these are as follows - (1) The present standard unit type B.2.C.J.1.A. with the highest output characteristic that can be obtained by adjustment of the contacts and spring pressures. This has a characteristic in the hot condition of about 19 amperes at 13 volts. (2) A new unit type B.2.R.343 which is externally the same as the standard but has only 2 1/2 turns of series winding. The output of this at 13 volts is about 23.5 amperes, or according to our revised specification about 20.5 amperes at 13.5 volts. The latter should easily meet our requirement but as reported earlier involves certain points of production and cost. These units are now being fitted to cars for road test.
