For the attention of Mr.Booth.

Dear Sirs,

Referring to our telephone conversation of yesterday with your Mr.Booth, in which we discussed the question of making up some bonnet plates for us.

We now think that it would be desirable for you to make up a sample bonnet complete, i.e. top plates, side plates, top hinge, side hinges and stiffeners. We are accordingly attaching herewith the scheme drawing of the bonnet (ECD.328) and the necessary details and would like you to supply a complete assembly as soon as possible.

The material for the top and side plates as discussed should be 19.S.W.G. Lysarts No.1 silver finish steel, while that for the stiffeners and stiffening plates can be of any material which you think suitable. The side hinges should be preferably in steel so that they can be spot welded to the bonnet plates at each end. We are endeavouring to obtain steel hinges of this type at the moment. If unsuccessful, we should have to use existing brass ones and would like to know whether you can spot weld these to the steel bonnet plates.

We should require you, of course, to spot weld the stiffening plates to the bonnet plates, and do not require the hinges or plates rust treated in any way but merely lanoline oiled to prevent rusting during manufacture.
