W/K - Mr. Hancock. 660 also 1113 (handwritten) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}11/JH.16.9.38. 26.G.VI. Exhaust System. Reply from GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} ms. file. (handwritten) 1113 (handwritten) The above car is at present at Park Ward's for modifications to the body, prior to becoming a demonstration car for Sales. When this car left Derby it had a whistle in the exhaust system which comes from the rear silencer. We could not hold the car up at the time to investigate this trouble, but we have since been able to produce it on another car, and have now found a cure. It has been suggested by Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} that the silencer on 26.G.VI. should be removed from the car by Kingsbury, modified and refitted before Sales use it. The modification consists of blanking off 75 of the 100 - 5/16" dia. holes in the centre pipe E.W.1804 of the rear silencer, the last 5 rows of holes nearest the rear baffle which carried the top hats to be left open. We suggest that a sleeve be fitted along the pipe to cover the holes and welded. I am enclosing a print shewing exactly what is required. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G.
