I agree with Mr Wormald that the cause of these breakages is apparently in every case due to a flaw in the metal. I think Mr Whitaker has come across a bad batch of springs, and I should recommend that we send him, say, 2 dozen valve springs free of charge and ask him to replace those at present on the car with these.

I do not think it is possible to trace these particular springs to any batch delivered, and it is consequently difficult to go further than this.

We have returned the faulty springs to the makers and are awaiting their confirmation that the breakages are due to flaws. There is no doubt in my mind but that they will confirm this.
