Attached is a copy of a questionnaire which we sent to Mr. Chayne, the Assistant Chief Engineer of the Buick Motor Co., and the reply which we have received from him. We are writing them further with regard to the timing chain. The one they use of course has no automatic adjustment, and therefore cannot be regarded as being representative of what we are going to use on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III. We are going to try out some pistons with an off-set gudgeon pin, to see whether this permits any greater freedom from cold tap than our present arrangement. We think the information in relation to the exhaust heating, butterfly etc. is of considerable value. We are in the process of running one on the test bed and obtaining data therefrom. We know that an enormous amount of work has been done on this particular feature, and therefore the specification of materials should be rigidly adhered to in anything we may produce.
