ESSENTIAL WORK (GENERAL PROVISIONS) ORDER, 1941.
TRANSFER OF EMPLOYEES.

Recently a number of employees were transferred from Nottingham to Derby and a number from Derby to Nottingham without the consent of the National Service Officer. According to instructions contained in the Act, this procedure is wrong, unless the transfer is for a period of not more than 14 days.

When this was pointed out to Sft{Mr Swift}/LA{L. A. Archer}, it was explained that the National Service Officer at Nottingham held the opinion that this was not necessary, consequently the Manager of the Derby Employment Exchange was asked to give a decision. Below is copy of the reply:-

ATH/WS.                 5th.June 1941.

Dear Sirs,

ESSENTIAL WORK (GENERAL PROVISIONS) ORDER, 1941.

With reference to your letter, ref.Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/NS.{Norman Scott}3/MC.2641, of the 2nd.June 1941, I have taken the matter up with the National Service Officer at the Nottingham Employment Exchange, and he has agreed that in each case of transfer from Nottingham to any other undertaking, including dispersal units or subsidiary establishments of your own firm, an application for transfer is necessary, and he will act accordingly in future.

It will be appreciated, therefore, if you will convey this to your Nottingham Branch, and ask them to submit to the National Service Officer any application for transfer, to Derby or elsewhere, when the necessary permission will be given by the National Service Officer.

Yours faithfully,
Sgd. E.B. Davison.
National Service Officer

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/NS.{Norman Scott}
