SECRET. 1153 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c.c. to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/JH.24.3.40. Column Gear Shift.- Senior Range. The detailing of the die cast head casing on PL.77 proved to be difficult and we have gone further into the design. The aim has been to make the core draw out of the gearbox head at 45° to the vertical. On PL.231 herewith we shew our proposals and believe we have completely determined the shape of the box. This box is no longer a quasi solid of revolution but has been developed by sectioning in planes at right angles to the axis of draw of the core. The increased dimension between the gear-shift shaft and the column already shown on PL.220 has been made use of.
