To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} PN.{Mr Northey} ORIGINAL EFC1/B28.2.29. SWITCHBOX AND CUT-OUT CONTACT LIFE TESTS. X8730 / X8740 We have now completed a satisfactory series of four comparative tests of switchbox and cut-out contact life tests, the operation of the switch being performed mechanically at a frequency of about 30 per minute, and the number of operations being recorded by a small counter. The four cases referred to are :- Positive of shunt coil of cut-out connected to dynamo terminal. Field break in relation to armature break. B Before B After C Before C After The detail results of these tests are contained in my assistants report A.D. 28 attached, from which it will be seen that we have finally confirmed our recommendation of adopting for standard the arrangement in which the positive of the shunt coil of the cut-out is connected to dynamo terminal C and the field breaks first on the charging switch, i.e. before the armature break. We are keeping the actual contacts for inspection in case you would care to inspect these on your return from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence. EFC. | ||
