Stay between Engine and Frame - Phantom III.

We send herewith N.Sch.4766 which shows modifications to this stay suggested by a recent failure on the bump test.

We have not altered the stay itself but the anchorage on engine and frame is made more flexible vertically by the use of Thackeray washers which also serve to prevent rattle.

Bronze bushes as now used are retained as we have not heard of any complaint about these.

The anchorage on the frame is given more fore and aft strength by deleting the rivets at the side and adding a bolt at the back.

The retaining ring is deleted from the bolt of the front anchorage for the permanent scheme and the bolt retained by a knurled peg driven into an undersize hole.

Existing casings should have a spigotted washer fitted to relieve the reduced section of the bolt from bending moment.

The nuts securing the stay aresplit pinned as it appears that the result of a disconnected stay may be a broken rear engine support.
