HIVES ----------------------- Dear Sirs, In reply to your letter of the 5th inst., we have received the six Lodge Model C plugs which you have been testing on your small car engine. We note that you complain that the steatite insulators in these plugs have fused. What has actually happened is that the glaze on the outside of these insulators has fused but not the steatite itself. We should like to know whether these plugs were sent back to us on account of their appearance, or because they gave faulty ignition. If they gave faulty ignition, would you please let us know exactly what the effect was. The glaze that we put on these insulators does not begin to soften until 700° C. It has, in fact, a higher melting point than the pre-war German insulators by 200° C.
