BM (crossed out) C.Rg.{Mr Rowledge} (crossed out) c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Sft.{Mr Swift} *1770 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/H5.2.24. re. Series III Condors. Marking Scheme for Correct Timing. The present means of checking the timing is unsatisfactory, there being only one inspection hole to check that the marking is suitable. According to Mr. Lightbown there has been a mistake and there should be an inspection hole on the other side also, in which case we should then be able to check the timing satisfactorily on each side of the engine, whereas we are now only able to check the timing satisfactorily on one side ( B.side). As we feel it is essential there should be some practicable means for checking the timing on A.{Mr Adams} side also for service condition, we suggest that until such time as an inspection hole on the A.{Mr Adams} side is fixed, the present timing ring should be re-marked so that both A.{Mr Adams} and B. side can be checked from the one existing inspection hole. We shall be glad if you will let us know what instructions you propose to issue on this matter, as at present we do not feel it would be satisfactory for us to deliver the engines in their present condition, and we would like to make this alteration prior to building up the engines for final test. Please let us have a copy of your instructions to the Works in regard to this matter. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
