SLOTTED OIL CONTROL RING

"This ring is meeting with such complete success
"that I should really like to make up a set of these rings
for trial purposes.

"As you know, the number of 6 cylinder cars has
"increased enormously, speeds have gone up and oil pressures
"have been increased, but this ring seems to have solved the
"problem of excessive oiling in every instance where it has
"been tried.

"Its advantages are fairly obvious. It has two
"scraping edges as against one in the ordinary Scraper ring, and
"having the piston drilled at the back of the groove has the
"added advantage that when the piston moves relative to the
"ring at the bottom and top of the stroke, the pressure of the
"piston on to the side of the ring undoubtedly does set up a
"pumping action which causes the ring to clear itself of the
"surplus oil in the groove.

"One of the latest newcomers into the 6 cylinder
"market at a very cut price, decided to fit this ring although
"of course, it is more expensive than the ordinary piston ring,
"after trying out several other methods of overcoming excessive
"oiling, and I think you will realise that I have some excuse
"for again approaching you on this subject, while the number of
"good fast sports cars who are fitting it, such as Sunbeams,
"Alvis, Vauxhall etc., is continually increasing.

"The price is approximately 50% over that of the
"ordinary piston ring. I should be very pleased to
"send you along a set for trial and if you do try them
"out I feel sure it will result in a very considerable
"oil economy in any engine you care to use the rings on.

"I am sending you a few samples taken at random from
"orders now in hand, and if you will let me know the size
"I will put you in say three or four dozen rings, either free
"of charge or at a very nominal figure.

"Assuring you of my continued service and
"attention,
I am,
Yours faithfully
JOHN HOWLETT
Managing Director.
