-cont'd- -2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/TAS.{T. Allan Swinden}1/JMc.22.5.40. 12.B.V. The carburetter on this car has recently been reset. For the samemain (.052) jet the by-pass jet has been reduced from .038" to .030". This jet difference might be quoted as the cost of fixed shutters and low winter underbonnet temperatures. 1.R.1. Since the water temperature on this car only rarely climbs to 60°C during town running, conditions are not suitable for even thinking about carburation. Actually, in order to make the car driveable, the main jet has been increased from .050 to .058 with an .038 by-pass. 2. We understand that a matrix suited to the restoration of thermostat operated shutters is on order. B.22.AW. Complaint of bad petrol consumption. Fuel levels both found to be 1/8" too low, both idle adjustments set two turns too strong, and all plug gaps at .015". The necessary alterations have improved consumption from 14.85 to 17.5 m.p.g.
