BUMPING TESTS ON 'INDIA' FRONT AXLE AND PIVOTS. We attach herewith sketch of a failure which has occurred on the bumping rig with an 'India' near side pivot. The first signs of a crack was noticed after 4 hrs. bumping and collapsed after 6 1/2 hrs. It should be noted that this pivot is not made to the latest drawing. After seeing the model, DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} instructed a considerable increase in the radius as shewn on sketch. We expect to have some of the very latest pivots on test tomorrow. We raise this point because of the very short time this pivot has stood up. The crack appeared to start at the outside edge in the strip of metal which joins the boss carrying the lever to the pivot. This has not been altered in the latest pivot. The Works are busy manufacturing pivots. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
