PHANTOM III. CYLINDER LINERS,

Referring to your note of the 30th May, the 61 special Phantom lll liners have been produced in The high phosphorous iron, not requiring heat treatment. The object of producing the half gross which was called for, was to make certain that the pieces could be produced without difficulty in the Foundry.

The next step is, a dozen of these should be supplied to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} to be tried out on a Phantom lll engine, in order to make certain that the flange at the upper end is not unduly brittle.

It will be necessary for the Experimental Dept. to arrange for these to be assembled and then handed to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} to be given a full power test for a short period, and then re-examined for cracks. Instructions to this effect have already been issued, but apparently nothing has been done. Will you kindly see that the above procedure is carried out.
