ORIGINAL. TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} & EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} R7/M16. 7. 23. c. to CJ. BJ. c. to PN.{Mr Northey} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RE. 20.HP. DEMONSTRATION CARS. X4545 X4228 VISIT TO WW. BY BJ. AND PN.{Mr Northey} ON 13/7/23. The blue and grey open cars appear to have something wrong with the carburetter restrictors. At slow speed the control made far too great a change in passing from strong to weak, in fact, for good running the control could only be in 2 or 3 notches about the centre, whereas at the strong end only the last few notches should shew signs of strength, and the weak end only the last few notches should shew signs of weakness. It would appear therefore that the cone was too rapid or the wrong thread was fitted to the restrictor needle. Conversely at high speed no detectable effect could be made with the control lever, the engine tearing away quite fast and well, both in the weak position and in the strong position. Here then the high speed restrictor either has passed completely into the jet, or the taper is too slow, or the pitch of the thread is too fine. This matter should be investigated, and reported upon to me, and the necessary alterations made on all the chasses. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
