centd :- -3- first test the ratio of the stiffness of the crankshaft to the driving shaft is to equal that of the effective inertia of the crankshaft system - 1/3 the total inertia - to the damper inertia. It is proposed that the value Id/Ic ( I. of damper divided by virtual I of the crank system) should be about one-third, although with the arrangement shewn we shall be able to vary these proportions with the minimum of trouble. The motion of the front end of the crankshaft - that removed from the flywheel - will be studied by means of a torsiograph similar to that previously employed. When we have this apparatus working we should be pleased for you to visit us as we should then have the opportunity of going over some of the questions arising from this and other experiments. Yours faithfully, blueprint enclosed. | ||
