1269 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.11/MH.{M. Huckerby} 20th. September 1938. The Skefco Ball Bearing Co. Ltd., Luton, BEDS. For the attention of Mr.G.Goodall. Dear Sirs, Referring to our letter of the 17th. and your reply of the 19th. Inst., unfortunately the spindle which you sent us has now been fitted to a water pump and it would be difficult to change it for a week or so at any rate. In any case, we should like to have one of the latest type bearings available so that the change can be made with a minimum of delay. Will you, therefore, let us have the correct bearing and we will return the other one to you as soon as the change is made. We were under the impression that you were marking bearings which were correctly grease packed in the latest manner, and therefore mentioned in our last letter that the unit which you sent us in error had a letter 'C' etched on the ground end of the spindle, as we thought that this might be the identification in question. In any case, as you informed the writer that you are now packing all bearings with the correct water pump grease, we concluded that this latest spindle would be packed in this manner, and presume that you have confirmed that this is not so. We are anxious to receive your advice of the three spindles, which we sent back for your examination, at the earliest possible moment. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
