Xrosa GRY.{Shadwell Grylls} This seems a peculiar statement. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} HOTEL DE FRANCE CHATEAUROUX. Indre. France. 7th May 1935. To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. 5 B IV. We have received the improved Intermediate Silencer, but cannot fit it as the exhaust down pipe broke at the bend, having been burnt through. The pipe has scaled so much that it was not possible to repair it. It has been left at Paris as scrap. If therefore, you wish the intermediate to be tried out, we shall require a new straight through pipe from the manifold to the intermediate box. We have resumed running today, under the following conditions:- 1) Thin leaf road springs. 2) Front anchored normal. 3) Crankshaft damper load set to 20 lbs. 4) Hydraulic Dampers set with an initial load of 100 lbs. up, 80 lbs. down. The Crankshaft damper springs sent out by H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Grylls are of no use. They gave no more poundage than what we obtained, with the standard springs i.e. 10 lbs., also, they are all or nothing, the rating being too high. We have been able to increase the load by other means to 20 lbs., which we are hoping will stay put. If we find it is not sufficient, we can increase it further. ----------------- G.W.H.ancock.
