Instrument Panel Switch Knobs
S2 Cars.

Confirming yesterday's discussion over the difficulties created by the introduction of the new shaped chrome knob on S2 Series Switches - insufficient shank length in certain applications - JPB. has verbally agreed to the re-introduction of the S1 type (violin key) knob for all long wheelbase cars, including F.5, where no A.C.U. is fitted.

With the S1 knob two shank lengths are available, UD.1576 and UD.1577, and it should be possible to fit them in complete sets. In any case, JPB. will not agree to mixed sets in one car, they must be uniform.

We suggest at least Cat.2 category for this change, because the short chrome distance piece introduced to add length to the shank where required, has never been a success and would present even greater difficulty on the manually operated Heater and Demister Control where there is no abutment shoulder.

Purchase Dept, (Rms/Mr.) assure us that no problem will arise in asking for more S1 knobs from Wilmot Breeden. The Cont. Bentley S2 still uses them throughout and F.F.S. have stocks.

FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}/DW is verbally instructing Road Test to anticipate the drawing and LOP charges in order to complete cars awaiting correct fitting switch knobs.

Why not instruct two lengths of shank for new knobs - tool cost will be the lesser evil -
