6-GOSHAWK-11.

I have today (A.M.) sent to Paris by Grande Vitesse the cylinder head complete with all the valves and have written to Wallis and asked him to send it to you by air without delay. I hope you are sending a new head soon as the car is laid up. We are examining the chassis superficially meanwhile.

We have dismantled the front springs and re-fitted the clips and sheaths. They were not a very good job. We found the aluminium packing piece under the near side spring broken in to bits and have had a steel one made to replace it. Aluminium seems poor stuff for this job, being very brittle in such a thin sheet.

7-GOSHAWK-11.

We are also going over 7-Goshawk-11 oiling and greasing. The engine is overoiling although it does not oil up the plugs. The exhaust smokes and the oil consumption is about 600 miles per gallon. As a preliminary we have reduced the pressure from 24ths. to 19ths. but I do not think this will put the matter right. We will however give it a trial.

We have also removed the front spring clips and sheaths and found the springs were not being clamped properly. The sheaths were coming down on the axle in both cases. We have now cleared them away and fitted them up properly.
