Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Ey. c. Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} 1220 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.11.5.37. P.III TOP OVER-OILING. Attached is a report from Dodd on oil consumption which more or less confirms the figures given by Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} at the last Car Conference. The position is that 32-EX car, which we are preparing for 15,000 miles, has a unit at present fitted to it, which is equipped with the long toe camshaft and the hydraulic tappets deleted. The main object of this test is to prove out the over-drive gearbox and aluminium pots for the front suspension. If you are definitely opposed to the scheme where the silent tappets are deleted, it will be necessary to urge the raised valve gear, if there is to be any chance of getting it on this car without delaying the tests on the other items. We are, however, arranging for the car without the silent tappets to be available when the Service Conference is held. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
